From Passion to Purpose: Sunaye’s Start in Beauty
With three years of professional experience, licensed esthetician Sunaye has built a business centered on enhancing beauty and confidence. Specializing in body waxing, skin health, and brow enhancements, she offers services like brow tinting, laminations, Brazilian waxing, facials, and dermaplaning.
“I decided to go to school and soak up as much information as I could,” she reflects. “I wanted to truly help people with their skincare, and every day since has been a work in progress.”
Her commitment to growth and learning has been a driving force in her success.
Creating a Safe Space: Sunaye’s Signature Approach
What sets Studio 22 by Sunaye apart? Beyond expertise, it’s the welcoming, “homegirl” energy she brings to her clients. Drawing from her background in customer relations, she creates an environment where people feel at ease.
“I want you to feel comfortable and that the space you’re in is a safe space,” she shares.
From offering snacks in her studio to ensuring a judgment-free experience, she goes the extra mile to make every visit special. This ability to connect with clients personally has fostered trust and loyalty in her growing business.
Lessons in Growth: Embracing Change as an Entrepreneur
Like any entrepreneur, Sunaye has faced challenges, but she sees them as opportunities for growth.
“Allow yourself to change your mind,” she advises.
Whether rethinking her studio’s decor or testing new ideas, she welcomes change as part of the journey.
She also likens entrepreneurship to juggling multiple roles:
“Sometimes I feel like being an entrepreneur is like being a landlord. I wear so many hats.”
Despite the demands, Sunaye finds fulfillment in pushing through challenges and cherishing the meaningful relationships she’s built along the way.
The Power of Community
Sunaye attributes much of her success to a strong support system of friends and mentors.
“I have a large friend group where everyone is an entrepreneur in their own field. We piggyback advice off one another and uplift each other.”
From real estate agents to car detailers, her circle provides invaluable knowledge and encouragement.
“It’s really about community. You should remain a student, always a sponge, and never be afraid to ask for help.”
This sense of solidarity keeps her grounded and motivated to continue excelling.
Words of Wisdom for the Next Generation
For aspiring Black entrepreneurs, Sunaye offers this advice::
- Always be willing to learn and refine your skills.
- Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who inspire and challenge you.
- Don’t be swayed by the “microwave mindset” of instant success—true growth takes time and effort.
- Focus on the journey, not just the destination, and celebrate your progress.
Above all, Sunaye reminds others to stay authentic and grounded.
“Don’t be influenced by social media highlights—you don’t see the dark parts of the journey.”
A powerful reminder that success isn’t just about the wins—it’s about resilience, consistency, and self-belief.
